He plays a stylish brand of pop that acknowledges a deep debt to the bubblegum northern soul of the late Sixties. The song Happy allows you to chew and dance at the same time. A lot of fun. Sticking Around - Jarah Jane - Montreal QuebecShe has described her music as a mix of Holly McNarland and a spoonful of Sheryl Crow... but the guitar style adds just a tadd amount of Ani Difranco. Although from Montreal Jarah has a distinct Canadian flavor including the reference to the iconic 401 highway in Ontario as the name of her tour. Celine Mastrorelli - Detestez Moi - Paris France. Although Celine has an Italian surname her family is from Cannes. Detestez Moi has the classic French light and airy feel to it. It swings quickly from beat to beat, with Celine making her opinion clear from each verse. Try listening to this song without tapping your feet, I dare you. The Cat Came Back (The Cats Perspective) Marc Gunn Marc Gunn is an Irish and Scottish folk singer with a strange affinity for Celtic ballads, drinking songs and cats, and he is the lead singer for the Brobdingnagian Bards. He is also Celtic music podcaster and Irish music magazine publisher and promoter. Lift Me Up Cottrel Grant With nothing but clean pop-rock and sharp, fun melodies, this Nashville band has a sound that nods to the harmonies of Kiwi brothers Neil and Tim Finn. According to the Charleston City Paper, Melody is our big thing, says Jeremy Cottrell, lead singer and guitarist of Nashville's Cottrell Gantt. We take a lot of time and care writing our tunes. If it sounds good and feels good, it is good. We just do what comes naturally to us. There's a public out there for every genre of music, so we just do what we do ... and hopefully, somebody likes it! Cottrell, 32, met singer/guitarist Jason Gantt, 28, in Nashville. The two played as an acoustic duo at clubs around town before enlisting drummer Nathan Freitas and bassist Eli Beaird to form Cottrell Gantt as a proper band. Breathe Deep Caitlyn Smith Young Caitlyn Smith comes from the Midwest USA and sweet but powerful Jewel like voice. Caitlyn has a Christian background and it shows in her music. Follow is from her second Album Silence, Caitlyn deserves all the success as this displays Caitlyns maturity as an artist despite her age. Girlfriend Go Crazy Miss the Occupier Formed in Glasgow in 2003, MTO stick to a three-piece ethic with songs punchy, pacy and loud. From the compilation Bannermans - Under The Bridge Downtown Volume III comes Girlfriend Go Crazy, a quick paced funky tune that will have you up and dancing. Waiting Courtney Jones Courtney is an award winning 19 year old singer/songwriter. She has shared the stage with Sara Evans and JoDee Messina, and has been featured on local radio and television. Angel Now - Daphne Rubin VegaAn accomplished Broadway Actor, Daphne Rubin-Vega first lit up with her debut as Mimi in the original cast of 'Rent'. It earned her a Theater World Award, a Tony nomination as Best Actress in a musical and one for the Drama Desk Award. Panamanian by birth, Daphne moved to New York as a child and began her career in earnest at an early age. She sang on the soundtrack to George Lucas's Labyrinth (starring David Bowie). The Underdogs - Jenn Foster Texas-native Jen Foster is an award-winning singer, songwriter. Jen got her real education listening to the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin and The Beatles and performing in the clubs and coffee houses of Los Angeles. Jen headlined, opened for such diverse acts as Sophie B. Hawkins, K's Choice, Crash Test Dummies, Lisa Loeb, Allison Moorer, First Prize recipient in the Great American Songwriting contest's Pop division, and no doubt played a part in her winning 'Best Debut Recording Female' at the 2004 Outmusic Awards (her entire album was honored.) Working with acclaimed producer Jeff Trott (Sheryl Crow, Stevie Nicks,) 'The Underdogs' follows 'Everybody's Girl', Jen Foster's debut CD, which was released to consistently favorable reviews in 2003. The Underdogs is a pop rock statement of this decade. Her sound is totally consistent with other strong female voices from the west coast. This song grows on your quickly. Jill Sobule Jill Sobule was stirred by Al Gore's spectacular speech on the clear and present danger of climate change. The time for action is now, Jill thought. And so she wrote a song. But since everyone else was so down about the impending collapse of ecological systems, which could lead to floods, drought, hurricanes, mosquito overpopulation and species extinction, she decided to write a happy song about global warming. They had a stripped down sound armed only with an acoustic guitar, a snare drum, and Everly Brothers style harmonies. They played wherever they could find a gig; opening up for comedians at comedy clubs and occasional stints crashing karaoke nights in the suburbs of Boston, and of course the subway. Candy Butchers have been through many incarnations over the years since the acoustic duo days; power pop trio, full on rock band, orchestral pop ensemble with horns and strings, but at the center of it all is always Mike Viola's voice and his songs.
